Arcipluvia LV, 2024 (Framed)
by Daisy Carrick-SmithArtwork Details:
A painting from my ongoing 'Arcipluvia' series, this monochrome piece is an introduction to including stripes of black and white into the Arcipluvia series, using them as more than something to create other colours, and discovering new ways that these shades can enhance my work.
In awe of Bridget Riley’s black and white Op Art pieces, like those in her 1965 Fragment series, and greatly inspired by my recent visit to the spectacularly striated interiors of Siena Cathedral, my aim is to create alternative visual sensations beyond my usual ‘bombard-them-with-colour-approach’. This is a square work on beautiful deckle edge, acid-free, cotton rag Khadi paper.
Arcipluvia is a latin-derived name from the word ‘arcipluvian’, which translates to an ‘arc of rain’, more commonly known as a rainbow. This series sparked the concept of Arcipluvia as a shop to sell an array of colourful pieces by myself, and in time, other selected artists.
